There's no need for the seaweed situation in Tulum to put a damper on your summer vacation. Here’s a list of seaweed free activities you can do near Tulum.

Floating Short Tour in Sian Ka’an

The short tour is a perfect option for a day in nature. Short on time? The short floating tour, including the Muyil ruins, takes just 4 hours total, including drive time from Tulum. Since it’s a freshwater activity, it’s sargassum-free and great for the whole family. It’s one of the must-do things near Tulum. Explore the two lagoons, Muyil and Chunyaxche, and float for 40 minutes in their crystal-clear waters surrounded by mangroves.

Muyil Ruins

Archaeological site from the Classical period. Now with new restorations and jungle trail that connects the ruins to Muyil Lagoon. An activity you can enjoy with family and friends. Free entry for Mexicans on Sundays. And remember, new archaeological zone rules don’t allow backpacks. Only handbags are permitted. This experience is included in the floating Sian Ka'an short tour. Mayan guide Ernesto has been coming here since he was a child, so not only does he have the knowledge he learnt in his studies, he also has stories passed down from generation to generation.

Muyil Ruins. This used to be the observatory. Mayans are great astrologists, and this is where they would track the movement of Venus, the god of bees and honey.

Cenote Maya Muyil

Want to see the green carpet, otherwise known as the jungle, in all its glory? The Sian Ka’an Biosphere Reserve is a 40-year-old protected natural area. One of the best places to watch sunrises, sunsets, and camp near the reserve is definitely Cenote Maya Muyil. With a restaurant, rest area, life jackets, restrooms, and a 23-meter tower that invites you to push your limits and enjoy a special moment with family and friends. This experience can be added on to a tour, or visited seperately.
